QuickCheck: Is a well-known local university hosting a week-long 'investment course'?

WHEN it comes to anything online related to money, from shopping to investments, we are often advised to err on the side of caution.

Naturally, advertisements for money-making courses are often viewed as red flags.

However, recently, an ad claiming that Universiti Malaya (UM) is holding a "7-Day Investment & Wealth Management Intensive Course" began appearing on social media.

Since UM is a reputable university, is the "course" legitimate?

Verdict:

FALSE

UM, in a Facebook post, denied any involvement in promoting or hosting the course mentioned.

"Any use of the name, logo, or image of UM in the advertisement is illegal and was used without the permission of UM," it said in the post.

It also advised the public not to register or share personal information with the culprit, and to refer only to official UM platforms for authentic and accurate information.
