In the tranquil towns of Terengganu, an unexpected visitor has caused quite a stir.

As rumours fly and videos go viral, locals are left wondering if they should be on high alert.

Recently, a video went viral along with a claim that a bear has been roaming around Dungun, Terengganu.

Is this true?

The public has been advised not to approach a bear reported to be roaming in several areas around Dungun over the past few days.

The Terengganu Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director Loo Kean Seong, said that a team from Perhilitan Dungun has been dispatched to the location after receiving information about the presence of the wild animal.

"So far, the bear has moved away from the area but is still under the monitoring and control of the Perhilitan Dungun team," he said when contacted here on Monday (May 26).

He stated that anyone who spots the animal is asked to contact Perhilitan Dungun immediately for further action.

"Do not disturb or approach the animal, just leave it alone and report it to us," he added.

Earlier, a 10-second video went viral on social media showing an adult bear roaming, believed to be around Bukit Bauk and Batu 7, Dungun.

Comments in response to these videos showed that some residents had sighted the animal in their neighbourhoods

Facebook user Iecs Chunk wrote that he saw the bear crossing the road in Bukit Bauk on Monday but did not manage to capture a picture or video.

Meanwhile, another user known as Azhan Ball also claimed to have encountered the animal in Taman Indah Sari, Batu 7, on Sunday.
