IMAGINE this. The roar of the engine, the wind in your hair and your foot firmly planted to the floor. There is a certain rush to cruising at top speed down the highway, even without all those cop cars in your rearview mirror. Did a couple live this Fast and Furious daydream (or nightmare, depending on who you ask) recently when they led cops on a 100km high-speed car chase in Johor?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the event took place on Wednesday (May 7) at 1.40am after the couple was spotted behaving suspiciously.
He said the 36-year-old local man behind the wheel of a blue Proton Wira car with his partner, a 34-year-old local woman, had been driving against traffic.
“They were heading from the Pasir Gudang Highway towards the Perling Highway and refused to stop when ordered by the police," ACP Raub said in a statement.
He said the car was driven in a zig-zagging manner and from Perling Highway they sped to the North-South Expressway before making a turn into the Pasir Gudang Highway going towards Pasir Gudang.
ACP Raub said the chase continued into the Eastern Link Dispersal Highway towards the city centre before heading to Persiaran Southkey and Jalan Bakar Batu towards Pandan.
He said from Pandan, the driver changed direction to the Pasir Gudang Highway towards the Pasir Gudang industrial area to Jalan Masai Lama.
“We managed to detain them about an hour and 22mins later at Jalan Persiaran Tanjung Langsat off Jalan Nibong after chasing them for 96km," said ACP Raub.
He added that the chase, which has gone viral online, involved 14 patrol cars.
He said initial urine tests found that the suspects were under the influence of methamphetamine and the male suspect did not possess a valid driving license and was driving the car with expired road tax.
“Both of them also have previous drug-related records and have been remanded starting today (May 7) until Saturday (May 10) to assist with the investigation," said ACP Raub.
