Kota Kinabalu City OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda says the police a investigating the viral video clip that shows a group of individuals trying to chase down a car driven by a person suspected of being involved in attempted cable theft.
He said that the police had come across the 44-second video clip that had gone viral on social media.
“We have begun an investigation into the video clip. The recording is believed to be related to an attempted cable theft incident that occurred in Kota Kinabalu.
“The Pcar in the video has been identified as the vehicle used by the suspect involved in the cable theft case,” he said in a statement Wednesday (April 14).
ACP Kasim said the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code for committing mischief against public facilities.
“The police view such actions seriously and detailed investigations are being conducted to identify all the individuals involved as well as the motive for the incident.
“At the same time, the public is advised not to take any action that could be illegal, including trying to injure the suspect,” he said.
He urged anyone with information on the incident to come to the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters or call 088-529 222 to assist in the investigation.
“All information received will be kept confidential,” he said.
