QuickCheck: Did a freak storm destroy houses, shops in Sekinchan?

Violent storms can cause devastation in a populated area, particularly in a kampung where many of the houses are constructed from wood.

Recently, several videos circulated online depicting what appears to be strong winds ravaging homes, shops, and rice fields in Sekincan.

While the videos look convincing, did the extreme weather event really happen?

Verdict:

TRUE

The Sabak Bernam Public Works Department confirmed the event in a Facebook post on Thursday (March 6). It said that it affected parts of Sekincan and Tg Karang.

“Patrols and inspections are underway to assist in assessing the extent of the damage involved,” it wrote in the post. A video of the destruction was attached as well.

The incident was believed to have occurred at around 7.30am on Thursday, reported Majority.

It said the freak storm blew away rows of shops, kampung houses, and several building roofs.
