QuickCheck: Did a drunk driver knock into a school student in PD?

Crossing the road is dangerous enough, especially for a child. Looking both ways and waiting for the green man to light up.

However, even following all the rules will not guarantee safety when there are irresponsible road users like drunk drivers.

Was this the case in a viral video where a Standard Five student was hit by a car driven by someone under the influence of alcohol in Port Dickson?

VERDICT:

TRUE

According to Sinar Harian, the student was crossing the road in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Port Dickson around 7.10am on Thursday (Oct 24) when the incident occurred.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Maslan Udin said that the driver, who was travelling from Port Dickson town to Teluk Kemang, jumped the traffic light and knocked into the student.

"The student suffered a broken thumb and injuries to his hand and leg," he said in a statement.

The driver, 28, was arrested and was tested to have 230mg alcohol/100ml of blood - almost five times more than the legal limit.
