QuickCheck: Are MyKid card applications open again?

The MyKid card was a boon to Malaysian parents.

It is an identity card that can be used to get medical treatment, access pre-school services, and pass through airport security, among other things, for children under 12 years old.

In June 2023, the National Registration Department (NRD) announced that it had suspended the issuance of the MyKid card due to the worldwide chip shortage.

However, recently, it was said that the NRD will once again accept applications for new MyKid cards soon.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

The NRD confirmed in a statement that it will once again accept MyKid applications starting Monday (July 29).

It also said that those who applied for the MyKid card before the suspension could confirm their application at www.jpn.gov.my before coming to collect the card at selected NRD offices.

“The review period for those who had not received their MyKid card is three months, starting July 29 until Oct 31,” it said in the statement.

After this period, the MyKid application status would be cancelled, and a new application must be made.

Those with inquiries regarding MyKid can contact the NRD Corporate Communications Unit, at 03-88807077 or email pro@jpn.gov.my
