QuickCheck: Was an 11-year-old boy driving a car in a viral video in Sibu recently?

MANY children want to do what they see adults doing, and this is especially so if it is something they can't do yet - like driving a car.

Additionally, instances where children are seen doing such activities can be so shocking that any video of them caught in the act would go viral quickly once uploaded online.

Recently, a video of a boy driving a car went viral along with the claims that the boy is 11-years-old and that the video was filmed in the Sibu area.

Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed this, saying that a summons was issued to a man on Wednesday (June 5) for allowing his 11-year-old son to drive his car.

He said that this follows a video that went viral when it was uploaded at 3pm on the same day.

"The video shows a vehicle driven by a minor in Jalan Kampung Nyabor. The police managed to track down the boy and his father at 6.50pm on Wednesday" he said.

He added that both the boy and his father were later brought to the police station for investigation and further action.

ACP Zulkipli then said that the investigation found that the boy is autistic and has a medical record with Sibu Hospital's Psychiatry Specialist Clinic.

He added that action has been taken against the boy's father under Section 026(1)B of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for allowing his son to drive a car.
