VERDICT

TRUE

The sighting of the tiger was confirmed to Bernama by state Perhilitan director Yusof Shariff who said a report was received on Wednesday (Jan 3) of a tiger being spotted at Jalan Baling-Kuala Kangsar in Kampung Kuala Kenering, Lenggong near Gerik.

He also said the department's Harimau Unit is keeping the location under close surveillance and a special trap was set at the location where the tiger mostly roamed.

"It likely wandered into the surrounding area in search of food. Our team has taken the initial action to drive the tiger back into its habitat in the Papulut Forest Reserve close by," he said when contacted on Friday (Jan 5).

Yusof also urged residents to be extra careful and not venture out unnecessarily at night.

"Tigers are active from dusk to dawn. So do not approach the forest area to avoid any untoward incidents," he said.
