QuickCheck: Did two rival groups get into a brawl in Kuala Selangor?

EARLIER this week, a 34-second video went viral on WhatsApp showing a group of men armed with weapons and objects walking towards vehicles parked at the Taman Melor intersection in Bestari Jaya.

In the video, one of the men can be seen hitting a white pickup truck with an object as it drives off. The truck then rams a car and people are heard screaming in the background.

Another man is then seen hitting the car with an object several times before it speeds off.

It is claimed that the video is of a brawl between two rival groups, and it is also alleged that the two groups got into the brawl because they accused each other of being police informants. Are these claims true?

Verdict:

TRUE

On Wednesday (Sept 7), Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Ramli Kasa confirmed the claims and said that the police are now looking for the remaining suspects in the case.

"We have already arrested six suspects and have identified several others. It is just a matter of time before we arrest (them)," he told reporters at the police headquarters here on Wednesday (Sept 7).

He said following the incident, police went to the scene and found a pickup truck with blood on it by the side of the road.

"This led us to believe that the groups were armed with sharp weapons," he said.

He added that investigations found the riot was sparked by two rival groups suspecting the other of giving information to the police.

"Further checks revealed that none of them were actually police informants. Our investigations also found that none of those involved were part of a secret society," he said.
