QuickCheck: Did a police chase really happen as seen in a TikTok video?

On Sunday (April 3), a video went viral on TikTok of police personnel chasing a suspect, and it is alleged that the incident happened in the Petaling Jaya area. Did this happen as claimed?

VERDICT:

TRUE

On Sunday, Deputy Petaling Jaya OCPD Supt Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident occurred at around 5.30pm on Saturday (April 2).

"Police initially stopped the suspect who was behaving suspiciously in a car along Jalan Sungai Buloh headed toward Subang near Kota Damansara.

“When the police attempted to inspect the vehicle, the suspect accelerated and tried to ram one of the policemen, causing him to attempt to shoot out the tires of the suspects car," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said police then chased the suspect while the Petaling Jaya police control centre alerted other patrol vehicles to the incident.

"The suspect abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was caught near Bandar Pinggiran Subang. Investigations revealed the suspect was a 40-year-old foreign national," he said, adding that they seized a Proton Wira Aeroback.
