HONG KONG: Popular veteran civil servant Donald Tsang has won enough support from a China-appointed committee to be the territory's next leader with the daunting task of balancing the demands of Beijing with calls for democracy.
The post of chief executive came up when the unpopular Tung Chee-hwa, anointed chief executive at the end of British rule in 1997, resigned in March, citing poor health.
