BHOPAL: Islamic leaders on Sunday recommended a marriage code for India's 140 million Muslims, urging them to stop the current system that allows a husband to instantly divorce his wife.
Islamic law generally accepts that a husband has divorced his wife if he announces three times his intention to leave her, and the decision is then ratified by a religious leader. The process for a wife to divorce her husband is more difficult.
