MANILA: Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday issued an order suspending several benefits and perks of government employees and officials as part of efforts to save money amid a looming fiscal crisis.
Arroyo, who left for a three-day state visit to China, ordered government offices and state corporations to suspend all foreign and local travels unless necessary or when expenses are to be paid by grants or hosts. – dpa
