HYDERABAD (India): The party of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the technology-savvy politician who helped turn the southern state of Andhra Pradesh into a major software and computer centre, was defeated in state legislative elections, he said yesterday.
Naidu himself was re-elected to his seat, but with more than half the votes counted from the April 26 election, his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had won just 27 of the 294 seats in the state assembly. The Congress party and its allies won the majority, taking 158 seats in early counting.
