LHOKSEUMAWE (Indonesia): A military tribunal sentenced a soldier to 2½ years in jail yesterday for raping a woman during a search for separatist rebels in north Aceh.
The light sentence is likely to upset many in Aceh, including rights activists who have long-accused the military of extra-judicial killings, rape and other atrocities in the province.
