BANGKOK: Ethnic Lisu hill tribe villagers in northern Thailand have revived a traditional ceremony involving animal sacrifice to put a curse on police for allegedly framing their leaders on trumped-up drug charges, it was reported yesterday.
The throats of five chickens and a pig were cut amid chanting by four spiritual leaders in a Lisu jyua ceremony at sunrise on Thursday that had not been performed for 23 years, according to The Nation newspaper.
