HONG KONG: Living under the threat of the pneumonia-like SARS, people here are flocking to pray for heavenly intervention to ward off the deadly virus.
The pilgrimages began about two weeks ago, soon after the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, when Catholic and Protestant adherents staged a series of prayer rallies and were quickly followed by Buddhist groups exhorting the power of the heavens to help fight the disease.
