MELAKA: Youths will get 30% of local authority works contracts if Pakatan Harapan wins the Melaka election, says the coalition's state chairman Adly Zahari.

"This will open up opportunities for jobs, business and experience for the local younger generation," he said when launching the coalition's "Melaka Rumah Kita" (Melaka is our Home) manifesto here on Tuesday (Nov 3).

The pledge is one of three main thrusts, alongside a plan to make Melaka a smart state and achieve 25 million tourist arrivals by 2032.

Other pledges include restoring a state land policy that lets owners extend their leases early, without waiting until fewer than 10 years remain.

Women traders would get special grants, and more care centres would be set up for working mothers.

Pakatan also plans to use artificial intelligence to tackle congestion at traffic hotspots.

Adly said the pledges were based on meetings with residents and traders, and more details would be rolled out at a series of forums.

"Sometimes when a manifesto is launched, it ends there. But we will have several more series," he said.

Melaka goes to the polls on Nov 14, with early voting on Nov 10.
