KUALA LUMPUR: Career progression for senior Armed Forces officers will be improved in recognition of their responsibilities in defending national sovereignty and security, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) said the government had agreed on this during a special meeting with the Armed Forces’ top leadership.

The move aligns with the need to strengthen national defence capabilities amid an increasingly complex and challenging global security and geostrategic landscape, he added.

“The meeting also provided an opportunity for us to examine the readiness of each service branch, procurement and maintenance needs of defence assets.

“This is to ensure the Armed Forces’ operational capabilities remain at optimum readiness and fully capable,” he said in a social media post.

Anwar said he welcomed the direct feedback and insights shared by the Armed Forces leadership during the meeting.

He also pointed out that every government policy and decision must be based on actual needs on the ground rather than mere considerations on paper.

Anwar gave assurance that the government would continue to pay close attention to the welfare and needs of the country’s military personnel.

“Defending the sovereignty and peace of our homeland is not solely the responsibility of the security forces. It is a sacred trust that we must uphold together,” he added.
