KUANTAN: The Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JPSM) has been urged to implement the resolutions adopted at the 2026 JPSM Symposium through concrete on-the-ground action, ensuring the proposals translate into meaningful improvements in forest management nationwide.
JPSM director-general Datuk Mohd Radhi Chu Abdullah said the symposium was an important platform for driving changes in forest governance that could be measured in tangible terms.
“All actions must be coordinated with the relevant stakeholders, with progress monitored to ensure they contribute to better forest management,” he said in his closing address at the symposium here yesterday.
The two-day event, which began yesterday, gathered 300 participants representing the management and professional group and the support and implementing group.
According to a Bernama report, the symposium featured 20 papers presented by the JPSM headquarters and all state Forestry Departments, aimed at bridging the gap between policy planning and operational realities on the ground.
The presentations covered four main themes: policy direction and governance in sustainable forest management; forest management to promote socioeconomic development and protect the environment; forest biodiversity conservation through sustainable forest management; and applying technology in forest management and enforcement.
Mohd Radhi Chu said JPSM personnel must embrace new ways of working and leverage data and digital technology.
