Schools, mosque and residents gain from improvements

THE Federal Government has allocated RM1.022mil for various community development projects at Kampung Permatang Bogak under the Kampung Angkat Madani (KAM) and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Madani initiatives.

Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department (JPSM) director-general Datuk Zahari Ibrahim said RM950,000 was for KAM while RM72,000 was for TVET Madani on-the-job training.

“This allocation covers four main scopes: infrastructure development and maintenance; social development and greening awareness programmes; equivalent/alternative procurement; and facility renovation,” he said during his speech at the KAM handover ceremony at Masjid Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Zain in Kepala Batas.

Also present was North Seberang Perai district officer Mohd Hafiz Aswad Nadzri.

Zahari said 22 facility upgrades and goods procurement projects have been carried out.

They included the renovation of the Quran and fardu ain (Kafa) school canteen, Surau Kechik Husain in Permatang Pak Elong and a Community Development Department (Kemas) kindergarten; fence painting at Kubur Qaryah and construction of a Kampung Angkat Madani landmark.

Other projects are a new open hall and solar panels for the aforementioned mosque; the repair of school assembly grounds; sports courts upgrades and sports equipment purchase; landscaping and tree planting.

Zahari said the department prioritised community welfare through the implementation of five social development projects.

“The department provided hospital beds and wheelchairs to the elderly and infirm, food basket assistance to the asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat) and single mothers, school supplies for children from households with elderly or non-earning residents, facilities and equipment for village children to practise archery, and tools and equipment for motorcycle workshops for the youth of Kampung Permatang Bogak,” he said.

JPSM also organised a two-day Madani Community Carnival in the mosque compound in conjunction with the ceremony.

There was an exhibition, traditional sports, religious talks and a free motorcycle oil and spark plug change for 200 members of the community.

SK Permatang Sintok was also chosen as a Sekolah Angkat Madani by JPSM.

“The school received RM100,000 in infrastructure and school facilities aid, as well as for student skills development,” said Zahari.

The projects included upgrading the headmaster’s room, surau and ceiling of the pre-school.

The allocation also enabled the school to instal fans and air-conditioning, upgrade goalposts, fences and radio-controlled (RC) jet room, as well as acquire sports items and football jerseys for the Tunas Sintok football team.

The school’s 372 students and 37 teachers are now benefitting from a more conducive environment.
