KUALA LUMPUR: Parties under Perikatan Nasional will contest in the Melaka election, despite a suspension order on the coalition’s activities, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
“We have discussed this internally, pertaining to the needed preparations. We will be together with our partners for the battle in Melaka.
“Regardless, all parties under Perikatan’s banner will field candidates at the Melaka polls,” he said at a press conference at the Parliament media centre.
The Registrar of Societies (ROS), on Sept 22, had invoked the Societies Act to freeze all Perikatan activities.
On Tuesday, the Kuala Lumpur High Court granted the coalition permission to proceed a judicial review challenging the ROS order that indefinitely suspended the coalition’s activities.
Asked if Perikatan will be contesting on its own logo in light of the ROS’ suspension order on the coalition’s activities, Takiyuddin said there are always alternatives to any challenges.
“The first option is always to contest under Perikatan. But if this is not possible, there are always other alternatives,” he said.
He also said that negotiations with whom Perikatan is looking to cooperate for the Melaka election are “almost at 100%”.
