PETALING JAYA: A motorist allegedly involved in an accident that resulted in a child's death will face three charges at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court (Traffic) on Thursday (Oct 15), police said.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said police arrested the suspect at about 11.30am on Wednesday (Oct 14) at a private hospital in Damansara before taking him to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters lock-up.

"The investigation papers were referred to the prosecution at about 3pm, and the driver will be charged.

"There will be three charges, under Sections 41(1), 42(1) and 52(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement.

In the incident on Saturday (Oct 10), the suspect's car was reportedly involved in a multi-vehicle accident along Jalan Kuching that claimed the life of five-year-old Asiah Ahmad Syahir.

The child died from severe head injuries while being taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, while her father and a motorcyclist were injured.

ACP Zamzuri said later police had tracked down a 24-year-old motorist suspected of hitting the victim's car from behind and fleeing the scene.

"The driver is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Damansara for a concussion and remains under the observation of the investigating officer," he was quoted as saying on Monday (Oct 12).
