PETALING JAYA: The resignation of four PKR MPs, including Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, has raised fresh questions over the stability of the unity government, says Datuk Razlan Rafii (pic).
The Umno supreme council member said the resignations were significant as they involved elected representatives from a party leading the Federal Government.
He added that the PKR leadership should explain why the MPs chose to give up their parliamentary seats before their terms ended.
“This goes beyond the issue of positions or party membership. Clearly, there is uncertainty within the governing party,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 3).
Razlan also claimed the resignations were a serious sign of eroding trust in PKR's party leadership.
“The government cannot simply dismiss all criticism as political attacks. If the allegations are untrue, it should provide evidence to refute them. If there are weaknesses, they should be acknowledged and rectified. The people have the right to know the truth.
“If the government is confident that it still has the people’s trust, it should return the mandate to the people, as the current parliamentary term is approaching four years. Let the people decide,” he said.
Lee, who resigned as the Petaling Jaya MP on Oct 3, has hinted that he will remain in the constituency for the next general election.
He won the Petaling Jaya seat in the 15th General Election in 2022.
Lee is the latest PKR member to quit, following Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Wong Chen.
