KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for observation, says his son Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.
Mokhzani said his father's condition was stable and not cause for concern, adding that the decision to admit him was made to allow for monitoring following the passing of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
"He was admitted to IJN for observation," Mokhzani said when contacted on Wednesday (Sept 30).
"The past two days have been very stressful for Tun M. For now, he is doing fine and is not in a worrisome condition."
Dr Siti Hasmah passed away at IJN at the age of 100 on the morning of Sept 28 and was laid to rest at Makam Pahlawan in Presint 20, Putrajaya, with a state funeral on the same day.
Another son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, previously stated that Dr Mahathir had been at IJN to accompany his wife throughout her treatment prior to her passing.
Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah were married on Aug 5, 1956, marking 70 years of marriage this year, and have seven children. - Bernama
