PETALING JAYA: Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal have extended their condolences over the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
In separate Facebook posts, they paid tribute to Dr Siti Hasmah for her contributions to the nation and extended their condolences to her husband, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and his family.
Wan Junaidi and Fauziah expressed their appreciation for Dr Siti Hasmah's contributions to medicine and public health, particularly in maternal and child healthcare and services to rural communities.
"We extend our condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, their children and the entire family, and pray that they are granted strength and patience in facing this loss," they said in a Facebook post on Monday (Sept 28).
Hajiji described Dr Siti Hasmah as a respected figure who inspired Malaysians through her service, contributions and dedication to the country.
"Her passing is a great loss that will surely be felt by all Malaysians.
"May Tun Dr Mahathir and his family be granted strength and patience during this difficult time.
"Her contributions and service will always be remembered and continue to inspire future generations," he said in his post.
Mohd Shafie, who is Semporna MP and Parti Warisan president, described Dr Siti Hasmah as a national figure who had made significant contributions and played an important role in the country's history.
"Her passing is a loss deeply felt by all Malaysians.
"Her service, contributions and exemplary character throughout her life will continue to be remembered," he said in a Facebook post.
Dr Siti Hasmah, who died at the age of 100 on Monday (Sept 28), was among Malaysia's earliest Malay women doctors.
She was known for her contributions to public health, women's welfare and various social causes.
