PETALING JAYA: The government has accorded a State Funeral Ceremony to Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali in recognition of her status as a revered national figure.
In a statement on Monday (Sept 28), the Prime Minister’s Department announced that Dr Siti Hasmah, wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, passed away at 9.20am.
She will be laid to rest at the Heroes’ Mausoleum (Makam Pahlawan) in Precinct 20, Putrajaya.
Her remains will be taken to Masjid As-Syarif in Taman Sungai Besi Indah, Seri Kembangan, Selangor, at 1.30pm for final funeral arrangements and to allow the public to pay their last respects.
Funeral prayers will be held after Asar prayers before her remains are taken to the Heroes’ Mausoleum for burial at 4:30.
The department has also issued official dress code guidelines for those attending the funeral ceremony.
Muslim men are required to wear a black national outfit (baju Melayu) with a plain black samping and black songkok, while non-Muslim men should wear a dark lounge suit.
For women, Muslim attendees should wear a dark-coloured baju kurung or long kebaya with a white shawl or headscarf, while non-Muslim women are advised to wear modest dark-coloured clothing with a white shawl.
