57 arrested, 43 motorcycles seized in Iskandar Puteri anti-mat rempit blitz


ISKANDAR PUTERI: A total of 57 individuals have been detained in a joint operation involving several agencies to combat street thugs and illegal racing in the area.

Iskandar Puteri acting OCPD Supt Saifullah Jaya@Yaya said those arrested were five women and 52 men aged 15 to 30 years old, in the operation on Sunday (Sept 27).

He said the operation at the Lima Kedai Toll Plaza, Second Link Highway involved the Iskandar Puteri Police Contingent Traffic Department, Bukit Aman and Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ).

“The operation was carried out to clamp down on reckless street behaviour endangering road users, while ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws,’’ Supt Saifullah said in a statement.

He said police issued 112 summonses to the offenders for various offences, while the Johor JPJ also issued 106 notices to them, and seized 43 from the 46 motorcycles inspected.

“The motorcycles were seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987,’’ added Supt Saifullah.

He said similar operations will be conducted on an ongoing basis to prevent illegal racing and ensure public safety in the Iskandar Puteri police district.
