PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional may use the PAS logo or that of another component party in the Melaka state election if its own remains unavailable following the Registrar of Societies’ (ROS) suspension order.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (pic) said there was no requirement for parties working together in an election to use their respective logos, as they could instead adopt the logo of one of the component parties.
“A party can use the logo of any party that shows they are united or working together, even if they do not have a coalition,” he said after opening the Bunut Payung state constituency’s Karnival Cakna Rakyat in Kota Baru, Kelantan, yesterday, according to Sinar Harian.
Takiyuddin cited the General Election in 2018 as a precedent, when DAP, PKR and Bersatu contested under the PKR logo before Pakatan Harapan adopted a common logo.
“It is not an offence under election laws,” he said.
On negotiations with Barisan Nasional, Takiyuddin said discussions had yet to be finalised but had passed the halfway mark.
He said talks were continuing and the ROS action had no impact on Perikatan’s position on the proposed political cooperation, adding that negotiations remained on track in line with PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s call for the “unity of the ummah”.
He also denied reports that Perikatan had been allocated seven seats to contest in the Melaka polls.
“That has not been decided yet and is still being negotiated. But things are positive and we are optimistic,” he said.
According to ROS, the suspension followed a complaint lodged by Bersatu on Aug 11 over allegations that the party was not involved in the Perikatan supreme council meeting on July 16, as well as issues concerning its membership in the coalition.
Takiyuddin said Perikatan had formed a team to study possible legal action against ROS.
“Tomorrow, we will have a meeting with the lawyers in Kuala Lumpur.
“We will decide on the appropriate action, whether to seek an injunction or a declaration on whether the ROS decision is valid or not,” he said.
On Bersatu’s position in the state governments, Takiyuddin said the matter should be referred to the respective state governments.
“Bersatu is also in the state governments of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah. I do not want to comment at length,” he added.
