Accurate, clear info vital to boost public confidence in tax system, says LHDN

KOTA KINABALU: Information on taxation must be accurate and easily understood to increase public confidence in the nation’s tax system, says the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

Its chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said a good taxation system depends on how information is shared, because it helps the people understand their responsibilities as taxpayers.

In this context, the media has a vital role in disseminating tax-related information and increasing public awareness of individual responsibilities in the taxation system.

"I hope our cooperation with the media can continue so that our initiatives and information on tax-related matters can be disseminated accurately and expeditiously to taxpayers, especially in Sabah," he said during a media engagement session here on Friday (Sept 25).

He stressed that with accurate information on tax, Malaysians would be more confident and willing to contribute and fulfil their duties as taxpayers.

As part of its efforts to spread this awareness, LHDN Month this October will have activities based on the theme "voluntary declaration, shared responsibility", he said.

This initiative would, among other things, have an emphasis on voluntary tax declaration involving e-invoicing and stamp duty, he added.
