KOTA KINABALU: Four men in their 20s were killed after their car crashed into a parked trailer along Jalan Sepanggar early Sunday (Sept 27), here.
The 23-year-old car driver was believed to have lost control of his vehicle and skidded off his lane into the parked trailer, crashing into it near Taman Jaya Diri at around 2.30am.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department acting Kota Kinabalu station chief Mohd Hannis Moktar said the driver and three passengers were pinned inside the wrecked vehicle.
"Rescuers had to extricate all victims and medical officials pronounced them deceased at the scene," he said in a statement.
He said the bodies of the victims were later handed over to the police for further action, while operations on site concluded at 3.55am.
Kota Kinabalu acting OCPD Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said the accident also affected several other vehicles that were parked in front of the trailer.
"A total of five vehicles were damaged because when the victim's car hit the trailer, the truck moved forward and rammed into several parked cars ahead," he said.
He urged witnesses or those with information that could assist in investigations to contact investigating officer Insp Royston at 016-313 0153 or report to the nearest police station.
