MELAKA: Labels such as “treasonous” or “insolent” should not be used freely without first fully understanding the constitutional position of the institutions involved, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said disputes involving royal institutions and state administrations must be assessed according to the respective roles and responsibilities prescribed under the Federal Constitution and state constitutions.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president, said this included respecting the rights guaranteed to every citizen under the Constitution.
“Do not allow accusations of treason or insolence to come before a proper understanding of the facts.
“The foremost duty of leadership is to clear up confusion through knowledge and wisdom while safeguarding the dignity of our institutions,” he added.
He said this when opening the national discourse “Unravelling the Malay Peninsula Polemic” at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here on Saturday (Sept 26).
