PETALING JAYA: Rapid KL has begun installing platform safety barriers at LRT stations along the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling lines as part of efforts to strengthen passenger safety.
As of Saturday (Sept 26), installation at the station had reached 85% since it started on Aug 1, with Putra Heights Station selected as the first station under the initiative.
In a statement, Rapid KL said the progress at Putra Heights would serve as a reference for the phased installation of platform safety barriers at other stations.
Putra Heights, an interchange station for the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling lines, was selected as the starting point to allow the design, installation methods and operational aspects to be tested and refined before being implemented at other stations.
Prasarana Group chief operating officer (Strategy and Development) and acting group president and group chief executive officer Dr Prodyut Dutt said the installation was among Rapid KL's measures to provide a safer travelling environment for passengers.
“Passenger safety has always been our priority. The installation of platform safety barriers is another proactive step to strengthen safety at stations, while giving passengers greater confidence when waiting for and boarding trains.
“Implementation at Putra Heights Station allows us to ensure that the installation and operational aspects are properly refined before being extended to other stations,” he said.
