PETALING JAYA: A Form Two student at a sports school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, has died after he was found unconscious at the school hostel on Friday night.
The student, Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril, 14, from Gemencheh, was the eldest of three siblings.
He was taken to Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah (HTAN), where he was pronounced dead.
Kuala Pilah OCPD Supt Muhamad Mustafah Hussin, when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the case was still under investigation.
“The post-mortem will be conducted at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar (HTJ), Seremban,” he said.
Earlier, a social media post went viral alleging that a student had died after being assaulted and bullied at the school hostel.
However, the allegation that the student had been assaulted has yet to be verified, with police investigations ongoing to determine the actual cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, Kuala Pilah MP Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan said he received a telephone call from the police informing him of the incident.
He said he then rushed to HTAN to pay his respects to the late Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril.
“Late at night, I received a telephone call from the Kuala Pilah district police chief informing me of a death at the school hostel.
“I rushed to HTAN to pay my respects to the late Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril,” he said in a Facebook post.
The incident also drew the attention of former Education Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin, who urged the authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation in the interest of justice for the deceased and his family.
“My condolences to the family of the late Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril,” he said.
