Melaka CM to hold press conference on assembly dissolution this afternoon

MELAKA: The dissolution of the Melaka Legislative Assembly is expected to be announced at a special press conference at Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday (Sept 22).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh will hold the conference, his press secretary Ezlyn Fardiha Zainal told the media.

Ab Rauf chaired the state executive council meeting at noon, followed by a post-exco meeting.

Sources said Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam had signed the proclamation to dissolve the assembly, paving the way for the Melaka polls.

It was reported earlier that invitations had been sent to all 21 Barisan Nasional assemblymen on Monday (Sept 21) night asking them to be present at Seri Negeri.

Speculation over an imminent dissolution intensified after the weekly state executive council meeting, normally held on Wednesdays, was brought forward to today.

The 28-seat state assembly’s current mandate expires on Dec 27.
