BALIK PULAU: A 3D artificial intelligence (AI) posture analysis system used in several government health facilities drew attention during the state-level World Physiotherapy Day celebration here.
Among those who tried the South Korean-made analyser were 16-year-old Nur Zureen Irdina Zaidi and 73-year-old Mah Hai Lan.
Mah’s son, Wong Kok Hooi, 39, said the assessment showed some misalignment in his mother’s spine and shoulders.
Health screening staff advised her to exercise more, including walking.
Nur Zureen, who underwent several health screenings, said she was advised to lose a few kilos.
The analyser is now available at government clinics in Kangar and Alor Setar.
The system uses cameras with depth sensors to capture a three-dimensional image of the body, analysing the position of the head, shoulders, spine and pelvis.
It detects possible muscle weakness and tightness, uneven shoulders and a forward-leaning head, and produces a report and visualisation of the user’s musculoskeletal alignment.
Hospital Penang physiotherapy services head Muhammad Hizami Mustafa advised office workers to avoid sitting for long periods.
He suggested that they move for 10 to 15 minutes every one to two hours, maintain good posture and support their lower backs with a small pillow.
He also recommended at least 30 minutes of daily exercise, along with a balanced diet, adequate sleep and stress management.
Hizami said demand for physiotherapy at government health facilities in Penang had doubled over the past decade, with Hospital Penang alone conducting physiotherapy sessions for about 200 patients daily.
Six government hospitals and more than 10 government clinics in Penang provide physiotherapy services at a fee of just RM1 at clinics and RM5 at hospitals.
The service is free for senior citizens and children.
