Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider hurt in collision with bus

BALIK PULAU: A motorcyclist was killed while his pillion rider was injured after their motorcycle collided with a bus at Jalan Mayang Pasir near Sunshine Bayan Baru here at 11.50pm on Tuesday (Nov 3).

Balik Pulau OCPD Asst Comm Anuwal Ab Wahab said initial investigations found that the bus, driven by a 44-year-old man, was turning right at a junction when it collided with the motorcycle travelling straight from the opposite direction.

"The 29-year-old motorcyclist, a local man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 23-year-old woman pillion rider sustained injuries to her face, head, both hands and legs," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 4).

He said the injured woman was taken to Penang Hospital for treatment, while the victim's body was sent to Hospital Balik Pulau for a post-mortem.

The bus driver was unhurt.

ACP Anuwal said police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

He urged anyone with information on the accident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

He reminded motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations and ensure the way ahead is clear before entering or crossing junctions.
