ANIMATED film A Banquet For Hungry Ghosts, co-directed by Malaysian Spencer Ooi, received international recognition at the 2026 Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP), reported China Press.
The film was listed among 10 work-in-progress projects that have entered production but are seeking funding and opportunities for collaboration.
The Golden Horse FPP named Su Chun-hsu and Ooi as the directors. It was produced by Taiwan’s Xanthus Animation Studio and Singapore’s Robot Playground Media.
The seeking of financing is expected to take place in Taipei from Nov 17 to Nov 19 during the prestigious Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival.
A Banquet For Hungry Ghosts is a horror story told using 2D hand-drawn animation and computer-generated imagery.
The film draws on Asian folklore and food culture, and was inspired by a book written by Chinese-American author Ying Chang Compestine.

Hebei Agricultural University in China held a welcome party for its students on Sept 10.
A first-year undergraduate from the university’s College of Agriculture drew the winning ticket, which awarded her free breakfast at any of the canteens on campus for four years.
Local press estimated that the woman would receive breakfast for free for more than 1,200 days over four years, with a total value of around 10,000 yuan (RM6,069).
Internet users were envious of the undergraduate’s luck, pointing out that she won an extremely practical prize.
