SUNGAI PETANI: A 22-year-old man was allegedly robbed of RM30,000 in company funds by four men in an incident on Thursday (Sept 17).
Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Hanyan Ramlan said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred at about 4.30pm on Thursday near the Sungai Petani Court Complex here.
"However, the victim only lodged a police report at the Sungai Petani Police Station at about 7am today (Sept 18).
"The victim claimed that he was approached by four men travelling in a car, before a struggle broke out between him and one of the suspects, who was armed with a folding knife,” he said in a statement.
ACP Hanyan said the victim told police that the suspect attempted to stab him during the struggle, but he managed to wrest the knife away and retaliate against the attacker.
"The victim also claimed that the suspect’s accomplices struck him, causing him to fall to the ground, before the group fled with the company money kept in the car and one of his bank cards,” he said, adding that the incident has since gone viral on social media.
ACP Hanyan said further investigations are underway under Sections 395/397 and 182 of the Penal Code, and witnesses are urged to come forward to assist in the probe.
The victim has been sent to a hospital for a medical examination. – Bernama
