PETALING JAYA: More than 30 firefighters put out fires that nearly destroyed four factories in a predawn fire in Taman Perindustrian Puchong on Thursday (Sept 17).
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the fire affected four factories along Jalan TPP 5/15.
“The fire involved four factories, each measuring about 80m by 100m, with damage estimated at 90% to each building.
“The affected premises were a tyre factory at No. 17, a hardware, pipe and valve factory at No. 19, a furniture factory at No. 18 and an engineering factory at No. 20,” he said.
Ashrul Riezal said the department received an emergency call at 6.34am, with the first fire engine arriving at 6.45am.
“The fire was brought under control at about 8.30am. Firefighting operations are still ongoing, particularly on the roofs and inside the factories,” he said.
He added that there was still a risk of the roofs and structures collapsing, while the spread of the fire had been contained.
No casualties were reported.
A total of 33 firefighters were involved in the operation, with fire and rescue stations from Puchong, Subang Jaya, Penchala, Petaling Jaya, Seri Kembangan and Cyberjaya providing assistance.
The department deployed five Fire Rescue Tenders, two Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicles, one Aerial Ladder Platform, two water tankers and two Light Operational Vehicles.
The cause of the fire and the total losses have yet to be determined.
