KOTA KINABALU: A man believed to have stabbed his mother to death in Tambunan was detained after villagers brought him to a police station.
Keningau OCPD Supt Erwansyah Abdul Basir said villagers discovered the 56-year-old woman with stab wounds at a rented house in Kampung Katagayan at about 2pm on Friday and alerted the police.
A manhunt was then mounted for her 31-year-old son, he said.
Supt Erwansyah said villagers who joined the search later found the suspect in a hut in nearby Kampung Sukung and brought him to the police station.
“Investigators from the Keningau criminal investigation unit took over the arrest, while other teams conducted inspections at the scene and seized several items believed to be relevant to the incident,” he said.
He said the victim’s body had been sent for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death, while the case was being investigated as murder.
“Investigations into the motive and chronology of the incident are also being conducted,” he said.
