MIRI: The remains of all five victims of the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Baram, have been handed over to their next of kin.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said with the handover process completed, subsequent arrangements, including transporting the remains to the victims’ hometowns, will be handled by the victims’ families with assistance from relevant parties.
“We have handed over all the victims (remains) to their next of kin for further arrangements,” he told reporters at Hospital Miri yesterday.
Before the handover, police also carried out the process of identifying the victims’ personal belongings to be given to their respective next of kin.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements are already underway for three of the five victims as their families prepare to bid them farewell.
All five people on board the BO-105 helicopter operated by Layang-Layang Aerospace were killed after it crashed near the end of the Long Lellang STOLport runway at about 3.40pm on Sept 8.
On Friday, Comm Mohamad Zainal said post-mortem examinations on all five victims were completed at the Forensic Department of Hospital Miri on Thursday night.
