PUTRAJAYA: Authorities will review the controversial drama Madu atau Racun and take action if it is found to have breached the law, says Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan (pic).
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) said the review is essential to ensure all broadcast content remains appropriate and upholds the sanctity of Islam.
He said authorities, including the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, will assess the show against the Guidelines for Content Screening of Islamic-Themed Broadcasting Materials.
Expressing regret over the drama’s release, he noted that elements touching on religious sensitivities and local cultural norms should not have been broadcast.
“Elements contrary to Islamic teachings and Eastern values must be curbed to safeguard the morals of the community, particularly the younger generation,” he said in a statement.
Zulkifli urged creative industry practitioners, producers and broadcasters to act responsibly and ensure their work nurtures positive values that contribute to nation-building.
“The arts industry and media platforms should be used to instil virtuous values, rather than spark controversies that undermine societal harmony,” he said.
Production company MIG Production House (MIG) of drama Madu atau Racun has apologised over the controversy surrounding its drama, acknowledging that certain scenes were inappropriate and touched on religious and societal sensitivities.
MIG said that it was aware of the issue going viral and that some scenes in the drama were seen as too extreme for public viewing, touching on religious and societal sensitivities.
“We would like to emphasise that we have absolutely no intention of intentionally offending, belittling or causing any controversy,” it said yesterday.
