Seven men nabbed after car park brawl goes viral

BINTULU: Police have arrested seven local men following a fight at a grocery store car park here, which was captured on video and went viral on social media.

Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said all seven suspects were arrested on Friday and remanded to assist in investigations.

In a statement yesterday, he said preliminary investigations found that the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding over a vehicle accident and had no connection to gangsterism, Bernama reported.

“The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, and investigations will be expedited for referral to the deputy public prosecutor’s office,” he said, adding that the provision carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
