AYER KEROH: A new Bill to regulate state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and enforce strict corporate governance standards will be brought to the Cabinet soon, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking during his winding-up speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress on Sunday (Aug 16), the Prime Minister highlighted past financial scandals as key drivers behind the legislative move.
“I will table a mechanism... a Bill for state-owned enterprises to the Cabinet soon,” Anwar said, citing weakness in investment governance seen in historical cases involving Tabung Haji, Felda, and Mara’s overseas real estate acquisitions.
Anwar also revealed that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had decreed that investigations continue into all problematic state agencies.
In addition to the SOE governance framework, the Prime Minister announced that the government plans to amend the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 353) to strengthen the fund's operational and financial management.
