IPOH: Two teenage girls were killed, while a young boy was injured, in an accident involving three vehicles in Teluk Intan.
The car, said to be driven by a man under the influence of drugs, is believed to have ploughed into a motorcycle and another vehicle along Jalan Padang Tembak at about 6.35pm on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Nur Dania Arissa Salim, 17, and her pillion rider Nur Atikah Abdullah, 16.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene due to serious injuries.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Chua Kok Lian said the car driven by a 28-year-old man went out of control while attempting to overtake a vehicle.
“It collided with a motorcycle and another car before hitting a seven-year-old boy walking by the roadside,” he said in a statement yesterday.
ACP Chua said the two teenage girls died on the spot while the 28-year-old driver and the injured boy were taken to Hospital Teluk Intan for treatment.
He said police have detained the driver to assist in investigations.
“Initial urine screening found the suspect tested positive for benzodiazepine.
“He is suspected to be driving under the influence,” he said.
ACP Chua said the case will be investigated under Section 44(1)(a) and Section 44(1A)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 while investigations related to drug offences will be conducted under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect has been remanded until July 30.
