JELEBU: Negri Sembilan voters will decide on Aug 1 whether claims of waning support for DAP hold true, as party secretary-general Anthony Loke says every election presents a different political landscape.
Loke, who is defending the Chennah seat, said the outcome ultimately rested with voters.
“Whether support for DAP is declining or increasing depends on the voters on Aug 1,” he told reporters after nominations closed yesterday.
Loke is facing Barisan Nasional’s Siow Kong Choon in a straight fight after nomination papers for all four state constituencies under the Jelebu parliamentary constituency were accepted without objection.
He said a one-on-one contest in Chennah had been expected and was part of the opposition’s strategy in Jelebu.
“I am ready to face this challenge and will campaign as hard as possible based on our track record in this constituency.
“I hope voters will support all four Pakatan Harapan candidates contesting in Jelebu,” he said.
Loke said the seats are crucial to the alliance’s bid to retain the Negri Sembilan government.
“If we want to form the state government on our own again, the four seats are important,” he added.
Asked about his chances in the mixed constituency, Loke said every election was effectively a “50-50” contest that required support from all communities.
He added that comparing the state election with Johor was inappropriate as Pakatan is the incumbent government in Negri Sembilan, and had served the constituency through development.
