KUALA LUMPUR: Police have rescued a man whose kidnappers demanded a RM7mil ransom for his release.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the operation was launched after police received a report from the 46-year-old victim's wife at 1.30am on Friday (July 17), who said that her husband had been kidnapped.
"Through the joint efforts of the Bukit Aman and Selangor CID, the victim was rescued in less than 48 hours from a residential unit in the I-City area of Shah Alam, Selangor, at 1am on Saturday (July 18).
"Police also arrested five men and a woman aged from 30 to 46.
"They have been remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961," he said in a statement on Saturday.
Kumar said police also seized various types of drugs, mobile phones and several vehicles used by the suspects.
He said investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved, establish the motive behind the kidnapping and determine if the suspects are linked to a wider criminal network.
The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama
