KUALA LUMPUR: There is no political agreement between Umno and PAS for the Negri Sembilan election, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Umno president also denied that his party and PAS have finalised discussions on seats to be contested by the two coalitions, adding that not all statements made by the latter party should be accepted as an accurate fact.
“If any discussions are held, they are only in the form of mutual understandings. We have not finalised anything. We should have goodwill, yes, but not be overly positive. They can change the ‘goalpost’ at any time,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid was commenting on PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement that his party is in talks with Umno for political cooperation to face the Negri Sembilan election.
On Barisan’s strategy for the state polls, Ahmad Zahid, who is coalition chairman, said differences in demographics and voting patterns will be among the factors shaping Barisan’s political strategy and candidate selection formula.
“The situation in Negri Sembilan is different. The number of seats is different, population demographics and voting are also different,” he said. Barisan is expected to announce its candidates tomorrow.
